The Pie League 2018

Baildon v Ilkley

Saturday, 10th February

Adjudicators: JK, PL

Timing: 10:45, 12:00

Prices: 0.90, 1.30

Baildon were an unknown quantity, represented by an attractively priced cold pie. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a very average offering, with little to criticise or praise, though one adjudicator did express some dissatisfaction with the thin layer of meat content.

Half-time drinks were intended to be taken in The Hermit…….but the ridiculously late opening time of 11:30 resulted in the venue being moved to The Cow & Calf…..pleasantly empty and quiet.

Ilkley’s still slightly warm pie impressed both adjudicators with the quality of the pastry and the hefty meat content. It was nicely seasoned, and the juices had just formed into a gentle jelly, allowing the adjudicators to avoid any spillage onto shirts covering their well developed and protruding abdominal muscles.

There was no hesitation in awarding the points to Ilkley, who now lead the way in League North. Post-match analysis continued in The Yard, and both adjudicators took advantage of the venue to make further non-pie purchases of foods for home consumption…….and I’m having kipper for tea.
