Cleckheaton v Cullingworth
Saturday, 17th February
Adjudicators: JK, AB
Timing: 10:15 and 11:45
Prices: 1.30
The Adjudicators had the pleasure of introducing a novice into the League. We were hopeful that he would pass the stringent requirements and help out us old folk……but it was not to be……The candidate failed miserably…….but did show some qualities which suggest that he might yet become an Adjudicator…….we have not yet given up on him.
The game started with a cold, but tasty pie from Cleckheaton…….the crust was firm…but not overly hard, the content was probably slightly over salted……but had a seasoning which was approved by the Adjudicators……. The candidate let himself down……by being unable to cope with the crust, and with the salt content.
Half-time drinks were eventually taken in TheStar, Bingley……where all participants felt a comfort in seeing men of a certain age drinking bitter, and poring over the racing pages….
Cullingworth responded with an equally fine pie, exalted by the candidate, but eventually deemed slightly inferior by The Adjudicators. It was a close run thing……..only after a long discussion in The George Hotel, was a verdict reached.
This was a difficult day for The Adjudicators…….who had to both assess the pies, and a ocandidate……but we gave it our best, and stand by our decisions…….
